The Skinny
Though convenient, Buffalo Nickel Co. is more than just a wordplay of my first name. For the majority of my life, I’ve found myself to be captivated by all things americana, mostly that of the American west—in terms of both its history and its geography. In my opinion, nothing quite says American spirit like a buffalo roaming the plains, and in days gone by, this was all made tangible into the form of a currency—a nickel. The buffalo nickel is classic, simple, and rugged. All things that embody the line I walk and the lifestyle I’m about. This includes my art & design style.
To me, there’s no school like the old school, and nothing beats working with your hands in this technologically-saturated age. And I’ll be damned if I didn’t want that to translate into my branding and design work as a whole. So I draw. A lot. Like a lot a lot. The only thing I do more than that is erase. I typically then solidify my sketches via my trusty ink pen. And a lot of the time, aside from inspirational purposes, not a single computer is used in this process—from the moment my pencil first touches the paper all down to the last line and dot. Only after being completely illustrated by hand, does work become digitized and developed to be used across a variety of different media. And of course, I’ve also been known to be a sucker for a good handdrawn font—whether my own, or the handiwork of my talented friends.
A few years and a few hundred clients into this journey later, I’ve been able to bring a pretty plenty of ideas to life, and have been graced with the opportunity to work alongside a solid number of brands and clients to create a fine balance between art and business. Through humility, grit, and a little elbow grease, I'm learning daily to not only better myself and my work, but the lives and endeavors of those around me. Not until I’ve had my coffee though.
Hope to work with ya soon,
- Nick
